I'm a newbie. Be nice.

Hi all - I am a very recent custodian of a '99 306 Cab 2l 16v. If you want to have a looksee I have a video on my YouTube site - https://youtu.be/2LnnpBVc2iw.

Given various circumstances I am not working until October so I got this car to pass some time and for use until at least then. So far we have done a few bits - a really deep clean, added two rear window mechanisms, cracked and then patched the rear hood window (!!), fixed the hood mechanism....but we don't really know how! I have put a deposit on a full black leather Cab interior which I will pick up and fit once the lock-in finishes.

I have quite a few questions / comments I am sure many here could possibly help with / have interest in, so here goes:

*I want some different alloys and decent tyres (preferably a brand we have all heard of!). I think 16" are ideal but if you have 17" it would be worth getting in touch. Any one got anything for me? Cash waiting.

*The front suspension of mine seems very low. Not sure if it has been "stanced." The compliance of the suspension seems fine and no horrible bangs or crashes. But I can only just about get a flat had on top of the front tyres. Is this normal? Will this rule out 17" rims? Photo attached or check video above.

* Anyone have experience of the replacement zip in hood windows? As above I cracked mine whilst cleaning and it currently has a very inelegant patch on it :-/.

* As above I have secured a Cab black leather interior so once I am not locked in and can collect it I will have this car's original velour interior for sale. I would genuinely say it is immaculate and the car hasn't ben smoked in as far as I can tell. If you want photos or want to put your name on it let me know. Happily part ex for some 16" rims and tyres too.

Delighted to be aboard and sorry to go on so much (I have a bit of time on my hands!).

Hi and welcome

16 will do fine but most including myself pick 17s no issue with fitting or clearance so long as you get the right offset and size of tyre.

as for ride height the cabriolet was slightly lower than the hatchback/estates so that may be it but the car at its age now might also just be sagging, best way to check really is look at the springs on the front if they are anything but black they will have been changed for lower spring or even coilovers but if the rest of the car is standard it seems unlikely.

I have done a few zip in replacements again straightforward enough but very fiddly, if you dont have alot of patience best get someone else to do it, also make sure you buy the right size as there is 2 different rear window sizes.
